Born in Lancashire, England, Sandy immigrated to
Canada at the age of seven. She has spent most of
her life in the country west of Didsbury, Alberta where
she lives with her husband of twenty-eight years on
their family dairy farm. During her childhood, she started
to paint with anything she could get her hands on, mostly
old house paint collected from neighbours. As a teenager,
she was given an old paint box that was no longer used from a customer at a grocery store where she worked. From that gift, she never looked back. Sandy has cake decorated and has done sugar sculpture for thirty years, winning seven consecutive years at the Calgary Stampede, but decided to expand her horizons by working with clay. Her bronze "Simple Distractions" won Jurors Choice Best New Artist 3D in 2003 at the Calgary Stampede. Her submission "Where it All Begins" resulted in acceptance as the Champion Barrel Racer trophy for 2003-2007. Her bronze "Hit It Hot - Not Hard" won the competition for the "World Champion Blacksmith Trophy" for the Calgary Stampede 2005-2010. This year she was given the opportunity to do a commission of an R.C.M.P. officer. This piece will be placed at the Grandstand entry at the Calgary Stampede in 2008. Sandy continues to paint and sculpture whenever she gets a spare minute and does it with passion and appreciation of all the wonder that she experiences around her.
